And so it begins... Here is a look at some of Kalee's first continuous steps. For a couple of weeks now she has been trying hard to take a step or two. Now she can hold her own and walk pretty well unaided.

Since our last post, Nathan has started soccer this summer with Alex as his coach. Unfortunately his games are Monday nights, which is one of the nights I work. Yes, I went back to work at the end of March as a part time massage therapist. It is in a local gym called the Alaska Club. It certainly is different from working in a physiotherapist office, but the tips are great!

We were also fortunate enough to enjoy a visit from our wonderful friends Shawn and Daniele. It may have been a short visit, but a great one. We did things the Alaskan way by introducing Daniele to a day of shooting guns on the range. It was my first time too. We took a couple of drives, saw some wildlife and even went on a glacier cruise. Thank you guys for a wonderful visit.

In just under a week, we get to enjoy more company from Alex's parents. We haven't had the pleasure of seeing them since they visited in 2009. It'll be another great visit and the first time they get to meet their grand-daughter.

Kalee's Big Day

It's been a while in the making, but she's finally learned how to propel herself forward on all fours. Rolling around just wasn't cutting it for the young lady. Only a couple of days before "the day", you can see her stretching and rehearsing for the big moment.

He was singing Happy Birthday to Kalee and then proceeded to blow the candle out (the one in the card).

I was feeding Kalee her cereal and took a break to finish supper. Nathan decided to step in and finish feeding his sister, without my knowledge at first. That was until he said something. I think more cereal ended up on her face than in her mouth.

Nathan's Birthday Party

This was the cake Alex and I spent 4 hours decorating for Nathan's big day today. We're glad he at least ate a piece of this one! The kids spent over an hour jumping and running around the bounce house. We thank every one for attending and hope you had fun!

Summer 2010

Well, it has been 5 months now since Kalee was born. My parents visited in April to help me with Nathan and Kalee while Alex bode his time until parental started. April is not a great time to visit Alaska as all the winter activities have ceased and none of the summer ones have started. None the less, we had a great visit and managed to show them a little bit of Alaska.

From the beginning of May till the end of July, Alex took some parental leave. It was great having him around and helping out with both kids. During this time we took a few local trips to experience more of the Alaskan adventure. We took a drive down to Homer, which is a large fishing town. Beautiful place. We did not end up with the best weather, but enjoyed it none-the-less. We also took a plane trip to Juneau. Alaska's capital. It is a beautiful place as well, with a tonne of tourists. Cruise ship destination.

During the summer, Alex took a hiatus from work to hike the Chilkoot Trail from Skagway, Alaska to Bennett, Yukon with 6 other Canadians posted here in Alaska with us. As well, he got to experience fishing on the well known Copper River and a moose hunting trip to the Alaskan interior. We ended up with a lot of salmon, but no moose. Maybe next year.

My sisters also managed to visit this August for 10 days. We had a busy, fun filled time. We took an overnight trip to Seward which included a sea life cruise and a ride up the tram at Alyeska on our drive home. Plus we managed to make our way to Talkeetna for a day, regardless of the rainy weather. The rest of the days were spent touring Anchorage and some sites/attractions it has to offer.

Here are a few photos of Nathan's 3rd birthday. He enjoyed his toys very much and only wanted to play with them all day. We managed to drag him away from the house for an outing at the zoo. On the way home we asked him if he wanted to go to McDonald's for lunch, and he replied, "No, I eat cheese noodles at home." Only because he wanted to play with his toys. All in all, it has been a good fun filled summer. Hopefully our next post will be sooner than 5 months.

Nathan's Birthday Cupcake

World meet Kalee Theresa Considine

Tuesday 06 April at 0743 Yvette and I were blessed with our latest addition, Kalee Theresa Considine. She came out weighing 8lbs 2oz at 22.5in long. She's healthy but her face did get a little bruised and swollen on the way out. Yvette was a trooper again suffering through it all without even an advil. Yvette and Kalee are doing great and arrived home Thursday to join Nathan, Java and I. We'd like to thank everyone for the all the well wishes, visits and gracious gifts.

Still No baby

As you can see from the baby counter the latest Considine should have joined us today but she seems to be quite comfortable where she is. We went in for another checkup and everything is fine but baby is staying put, now we just wait and if nothing happens by next Monday in we go for another checkup. We'll keep everyone up on what's happening and I guess it's a waiting game now.

Alaskan Dog Sledding

It's been a while since we've posted, we apologize it's been a busy winter. January and February I spent in Tinker completing AWACS instructor training. While I was enjoying balmy Oklahoma City Yvette and Nathan had a great visit with the McRae and Dupuis families in Edmonton.

2 More weeks until the scheduled birth of the newest Considine, Yvette is hanging in there but is ready for the baby to arrive I'm sure.

Nathan and I gave mommy a day off and headed to the dog kennel of retired Iditarod and Yukon Quest musher and Vern Halter with a group of other Canadians. Vern now trains Alaskan Husky sled dogs and also Iditarod mushers plus provides tour packages. It was a memorable day, Nathan and I got to enjoy a ride with a 10 dog team, wow what power. Nathan enjoyed it so much that when it was done all he could say was "more". I can't wait to do it again, living in Alaska definately has it's benefits.

Learning To Skate

Well it's about that time in Nathan's life for a life changing, character building experience... no not school, learning to skate. So Thanksgiving Day Daddy and Nathan gave Yvette a break and made a trip to a local sports store to get Nathans first pair of skates.

Monday night we dressed Nathan in enough layers to ensure that the cold didn't scare him away and off we went. He made it through putting on the skates and also his bike helmet (which he's not too fond of). We jumped on the ice and off we went. Knowing better than to just let him go and hope for the best (like his daddy swimming lessons) I helped him keep his balance and move. He didn't do to bad, one tumble and a few tears but all in all a successful expedition. One proud Daddy

Another Baby Considine

We are pregnant again, well at least Yvette is. 12 weeks now and we're both very excited. Not sure what Nathan thinks but I'm sure he'll be excited and Java won't like it one bit. The due date is somewhere around 5 April. Unlike Canada images don't cost anything and you don't have to smuggle in a camera to get them, here you go.

Summertime in Alaska

Since the last post, we have experienced many things. This picture was taken at the Seward Aquatic Life Centre. The facility is used for research and rescue of marine animals. Here, Nathan is pointing to a sea lion (of which I couldn't capture).

The first picture is of Mt. McKinley, the tallest peak in North America. While on our tour of Denali National Park, we came across a brown bear (grizzly) immediately after exiting from the car. He didn't bother anyone and carried on his way up the Savage River. Followed by Nathan making a face on the window of the boat. We went on a boat tour of Resurrection Bay while in Seward and saw many marine animals including: sea otter, humpback whale, porpoises, sea lions, puffins, and other birds. It was a great tour. We also saw a couple of glaciers of which the other mountainous picture resembles. It has been a great visit with Don and Cleo and we will miss them when they leave on the 4th of July.

Springtime

It seems like the nice weather has claimed another victim. Nathan loves being outdoors and gets upset when he has to go inside. He certainly loves the playground, mostly the slide and the swings. Just the other day we decided to get Nathan a four wheeler (no it's not motorized) ride on toy. He enjoys scooting around the driveway and venturing down the small hill we have in the front yard. He is becoming a bit more independent as he likes to peel his own banana now. Plus he likes to play in the kitchen sink, when I feel nice. He actually hasn't made a big mess yet. Probably only because he hasn't figured out that the faucet spout can be pulled out. Now we're just waiting for the weather to get even warmer, so that we can enjoy ourselves a little more.

The MFRC held a children's Easter Party this past Sunday, of which we attended. Nathan enjoyed himself immensely. He was a little pre-emptive on the easter egg hunt. He would follow the person hiding the eggs and pick them up right away. Couldn't put any on the ground or he would grab them before the hunt started. Needless to say, he ended up with a couple eggs, and there were still plenty for the other children. He had a great time decorating Easter cookies, coloring, playing with friends and stuffing his face.

March Madness

We've had a somewhat busy month thus far. I was able to go dog sledding with some of the Canadians up in Willow, Alaska. It was a blast and I would recommend it to anyone visiting here in the winter time.

We also had the opportunity to attend an Alaska Aces hockey game. Nathan hadn't napped yet that day and it was around 3pm. Eating popcorn gave him some solice.

We ventured out one Saturday morning to watch the Fur Rondy parade. The Fur Rondy is an annual winter festival that kicks off the beginning of the Iditarod dog sled race. I also took Nathan to the winter carnival that was going on through the week of the festival. It was kinda cold to be on rides for longer than 15 minutes. Can you ever say you've been on carnival rides in your snowsuit?

We took Nathan and 2 of his friends, Alex and Tyler to the Imaginarium. It is a hands on science centre. It's not very large, but there are a lot of things for the kids to do. They all seemed to have a great time.

Canadian Winter Carnival

Here is our tubing platform. Here in the winter months, the Canadian Component holds an annual winter carnival. This year they kicked it off with some tubing at Hillberg Ski Hill. It was a blast. We never took Nathan, as we weren't sure how he would handle it. Maybe next year. Also we went on a horse drawn sleigh ride with 18 other Canadians. Nathan fell asleep shortly after the sleigh left the driveway. He then woke up maybe 2 minutes before the ride ended. It was nice. We got to see some of the country side and snuggled up under some warm blankets.

Hugs and Kisses to all my friends and family this February 14th!

Everyone here has been keeping well. Nathan came down with a gastrointestinal infection last week while Alex was in Moose Jaw playing hockey. It wasn't fun for either party involved. He is much better now and back to his old self. Here he is sleeping with Java. He likes to lay down with her when he's not feeling well.Other than that, we are awaiting the eruption of Mount Redoubt. It has been dormant for 20 years. Geologists are expecting an eruption, but there is no prediction when it will happen, if it will happen. So we're keeping to a regular schedule an going about our business as usual. I think we're prepared, so let's keep our fingers crossed.

Dissection of a Strawberry

Nathan loves his strawberries. He couldn't contain his excitement when I gave him a whole one. At first he tried to shovel the entire thing into his mouth, which was probably 2-3 times the size of his hand.

He eventually got through it all, in a matter of seconds.

Arctic Gymnastics

Who says getting up early doesn't pay off? We got up and went to a gymnastics arena for "open play". Kids can run around and play on all the gymnastics equipment. There were lots and lots of mats, a trampoline, a trampoline runway, a foam pit, a spring floor, balls, balance beams, and Nathan's favorite... A SLIDE! You pay a general admission and then the kids have the run of the place for 2 hours. We arrived at 9am as it got pretty busy around 9:30. At least the kids had a bit of time on the equipment before it got too crowded. We went with some of the other Canadians living here in Alaska. Nathan had a blast. He played for a good hour and fifteen minutes before we had to drag him away kicking and screaming. Yah for the temper tantrums!

Playing at the Oasis

Today we took a little trip into the base to play at an indoor playground. We went with our friends Tiff and Noah. Nathan certainly had a lot of fun on the slides. He couldn't get enough of it and was sad to leave. I'm sure we'll go back again soon.

Christmas Morning

It's Nathan's second Christmas and he's as excited as ever. He had fun opening his stocking and some of his presents. The unwrapping idea was novel for a couple gifts, not all his. He did however play with all the toys he received. Thank you to everyone for the gifts, cards and Christmas wishes. All the excitement was overwhelming for Nathan as he had to go down for a nap after the gift opening.

The Latest From Alaska

All is well up here. Nathan had a fun Halloween. We made it around to 6 or 7 houses before he started shivering. Besides, I had lots of candy at home that needed to be handed out. Nathan even helped with that. He was always first to the door to see all the kids. He had a great time and went to bed easily. The day after, I had to take him to the emergency room as he cut himself over his left eye. No stitches were needed, but glue was. It took 3 of us to hold him down, while the doctor glued the cut closed. Since then, things have been going smooth. Keeping busy with swimming, hiking, and next week-play group.
You can watch the video to see Nathan's new torture method for Java. He was actually chasing me at the time, but uses the swiffer to get Java to run. I don't blame her.

Visit to Edmonton

It was a long day of travelling to get to Edmonton...

...but it was worth it. Nathan and I had a great time visiting friends and family for two weeks. Alex even made a special trip up to Edmonton for the Oct. 4th weekend to attend a friend's wedding. The reaction from Yves, when Alex showed up unannounced to his wedding was priceless. There's no need to mention the fact that tears were shed. Oops! Congrats Yves and Amanda. The visit seemed way to short, but we had a great time. Nathan got to go swimming with his aunts and cousins, as well as ride a bunch of rides at West Edmonton's Galaxy Land.

Nathan even got to celebrate his birthday yet again, with a birthday cake and lots of presents. Thank you everyone for the gifts. Nathan plays with it all.

New Hair Cut

Nathan had his first professional hair cut today, and needless to say the hairdresser finally got most of it cut. Nathan cried the entire ordeal. I had to hold his head against my face while she cut one side, and then we switched. The whole thing took maybe 10 minutes, but I bet it's 10 minutes Nathan would not like to live again. Perhaps in 6 months or so.

We also went for a visit to Tif and Noah's to help Tif celebrate her birthday. Here's Nathan playing outside with Noah and a couple of dogs, Sweetie and Aero.

Eagel River Nature Centre

It was a chilly autumn day in September. A few friends and I took the kids and dogs for a short hike at the Eagle River Nature Centre. It was a nice sunny day. Everyone enjoyed the hike including Java. She was quite interested in the fish swimming under the platform we were standing on. As you can see, winter is slowly approaching as the mountain peaks now have snow. It's only a matter of time before that snow reaches the base of the mountains.

Afternoon at the Park

It wasn't the nicest of days, a little rain, but that didn't stop us from having a little fun at the nearby playground. Nathan prefered to play with the rocks, until he realized he could climb!

We went down the big slides together, but Nathan accomplished the little slide all on his own. First time by himself. He climbed up, sat down, and pushed himself down the slide. He's a natural on the slide.

Nathan really wanted to climb the big kid stairs, but as you can see the first step is taller than half of his height. Once I lifted him beyond that step, he was good to go.

Fun in Alaska

We've been keeping busy since Nathan's birthday. Playing with new toys and new friends. With some of Nathan's birthday money, we went and bought him a nice new chair, so he can sit and enjoy his bottle of milk in comfort. We also got a Thomas play tent. Not only does Nathan love playing in it, with it, around it, but Java likes to get in on the action as well.

Just this past week we took a field trip to "H2Oasis Waterpark". It is the 5th largest indoor waterpark in the United States. Doesn't even compare to West Ed! We got to enjoy the company of Tif, Noah, Julie, Remi, Jen, and Spencer. It was a lot of fun as Nathan splashed away in the water, went into the wave pool, as he held on for dear life to my bathing suit, and went down one of the kiddie slides sitting on my lap. I knew it was time to get out when Nathan's lips started quivering. He lasted a good 1.5 hours in the water. I'm sure we'll go back!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NATHAN!

It was a slow morning. We started off playing with some balloons, breakfast and then a 3 hour nap. From there we went to the outdoor market and looked around, got some gifts and enjoyed some live entertainment. I got to have spaghetti for dinner, my favorite! And to top it off, mom gave me a cupcake. She seemed to enjoy it, I would rather just play in the icing. I then had a bath, of which I also love. From there, mom opened my gifts as I was more interested in the sound they made rather than ripping the paper. She let me play with my new toys for a bit before I went to bed. A fun filled day for all. Can't wait until next year!

Birthday Dinner

I decided to have a small turkey dinner tonight for Nathan's birthday (I know it's a day early, but the cooked turkeys were on sale today!), and this is how the dinner ended...
...needless to say I spent an evening cleaning up. Nathan decided to start his career in magic tonight as he effortlessly tried to pull the table cloth from under the food and dishes so elegantly placed on the table. Luckily nobody was hurt, but Java may have a bruised ego as she ended up with a container of gravy all over her! She took the brunt of Nathan's magic trick. I've never seen a dog/Java scurry away from food so fast in her life. So the mess sat on the floor, high chair, table, chairs, and walls (yes more than one, because Java decided to try and shake the gravy off down the hallway) for a little more than 2.5 hours. I first had to wash Java, and that's task in it's own. I put her in our stand up shower and hosed her down. Of course Nathan has been crying the whole time since his trick didn't work. He's sitting on the bathroom floor in nothing but a diaper, just screaming while I'm in the shower with Java. Once that was finished, I then bathed a gravy covered baby. He stopped crying, because he loves his bath. Then I had to wait until he went to bed to clean up, as the two gravy siblings would have just gotten in the way! Now that it is all done and over with, I am off to the sofa to relax and enjoy what little time I have left this evening. Let's hope tomorrow's birthday boy will be in a good mood!

New Interests

Who doesn't get a kick out of balloons for the first time? Nathan couldn't put it down all day until he bit it and popped it. It wasn't blown up too big, so the pop wasn't too loud. Never startled the little guy. Plus he also received a bouncy ball so that he could play outside. All he wants to do outside it walk towards the road, so we play with the ball in the back yard or indoors. He loves to hear the ball bounce, so he's been throwing it all over the house. Thank you to everyone who sent Nathan a birthday card and gift. As you can see he is sporting his new Jersey from Aunty May and Donna. They brought it back from their trip to Europe. A little big still, but fashionable none-the-less.

Alaska State Fair

Nathan's ride on a pony. He loved it, but I had to trot along side of him so that he wouldn't fall. Can you say "out of shape". We traveled to Palmer, about a half hour drive North to the State Fair grounds to enjoy a partially sunny day at the fair. Our friends Tif and Noah came with us. We went into the petting zoo, which Nathan and Noah loved. Their giggles and laughter still ring in my head. I wasn't quick enough with the camera to capture a video. Needless to say, they loved it.

Plus we walked around to see the kiosks and some of the rides. There was also dogs doing tricks, which was kinda neat. A lumberjack show and a BMX demo. It was a good day and we all had fun.

Walking Tall

It's been a few weeks now, but I think I have a handle on this walking thing. For days, all I would do was walk to my bedroom and then to the rec room and back to my bedroom... I think you get the idea. Now I like to chase Java or try to crawl down the stairs backwards. It's a new concept, but it's coming along. Soon, I'll be jumping. Now won't that be fun!

Alyeska Ski Resort and Byron Glacier

Within a couple hours drive of Anchorage you can find lots of outdoor recreation including dozens of glaciers and a staggering amount of hikes. Monday we decided to take a drive about an hour South to the Alyeska Ski resort and took the tram to the top and did a little hiking and sight seeing.

Then we drove another 15-20 min south to the Byron glacier where you can hike right up to and on it.

House Warming BBQ

It has been a busy couple of days as we prepared for a barbque in our new abode. Seeing how Daddy is going to be away for Nathan's first birthday, we decided to give him a birthday cake. Needless to say it could have gone better. The birthday boy wasn't too keen on trying his cake. That's okay, more for the adults anyways! Maybe we'll try again on his actual birthday in a couple of weeks. He may not like an audience.

Living in Alaska

Alaska really is a wild environment. I've received several briefings from numerous offices at Elmendorf AFB while clearing in, regarding the unforgiving Alaskan environment and wildlife etc etc. Well they were right, a couple weeks ago a couple in Eagle river (yes we live in Eagle River) witnessed a grizzly bear attack a moose calf in their front yard, watch the video with sound and if it doesn't work visit the link:

Another interesting thing about Alaska is that it has one of the most lax gun laws in the US. I always knew it was easy to buy a gun but it is really easy here. I can go to the base exchange anytime of the week, show my military ID and an Alaskan drivers licence and walk out with my gun and ammo minutes later. And I can conceal that weapon without a permit in case I feel like stopping at Wal-mart in relative safety (you know how rowdy they can get). You can buy pretty much any weapon you like, including a .50 cal sniper rifle, which I must admit I momentarily considered. Some of the guys from the Sqn actually have trunks of guns in their garage, yeah 2nd amendment.

New Milestones

Since being here in Alaska, Nathan has gone thru a couple of milestones in only 3 weeks. He has learned how to climb the stairs, but can't figure out how to go back down them. Even after countless times of us showing him how. It'll come one of these days. Two more teeth have also broken through. The lateral I tooth on the left and the central I tooth on the right. When they're all the way down, it'll look like he has fangs. The other 2 I teeth are slightly showing through the gums. Shouldn't be too long before we see those break. He's had a rough go at the teething as we think it's waking him at night. Lots of drooling and very red cheeks, you almost want to pinch them! Now, he's learning how to walk. He takes a couple of steps
at a time and then falls. There's the odd time where he may get up to 10 steps or so before falling. Maybe by his 1st birthday he'll be in a sprint, and we'll be on our toes! Plus, Nathan enjoys a good meal.Especially when he feeds himself. The messier the meal, the more he enjoys it, I'msure. He can certainly eat up a stormwhen he wants to. The little angel is trying to be a big help, with dishes, vacuuming, and laundry, but I think he gets sidetracked along the way.

2 Countries, 8 Provinces, & 7 States

It was a long journey from Halifax, NS to Anchorage, AK. 24 days on the road and a bunch of miles behind us. We had a great time visiting with friends and family along the way. Our only regret is that we couldn't make time for everyone. We arrived in Anchorage June 30th and moved into our new house July 2nd. It was nice not having to pack up every morning and driving for another 6 hours. We have settled nicely and all boxes are unpacked. Now, it's just a matter of getting organized. Nathan especially loves his new room, as there is lots of room to play and make a mess. Not long after we moved in, did he figure out how to climb the stairs. Still no luck in going back down. Just yesterday he cut another tooth on the top, with 3 others closely behind. Please feel free to browse some of our road trip pictures in the gallery.

We had a great visit on Tuesday with Connie, Colin and their kids in Slave Lake, Alberta, thanks guys. Tonight it's Fort Nelson, BC after a short day from Fort St John. Only a couple more days then we're home, talk to you all soon.

Almost there

Well finally another post, we arrived yesterday at Yvette's parents for a couple days to visit and rest before making the final push for Anchorage. The trip has gone well so far, we've had some great stops with family and friends including Rob, Ute & Candy in Fredericton, the Considine Clan in Trenton, the De'Abreu's in Kitchener and Yvette's cousins in Saskatoon. Thank-you everyone for the great hospitality. Nathan has proven to be a great traveller and has had a big couple weeks, he started pulling himself up and crawling a couple weeks ago.

Last Day at the Beach

It was a foggy, chilly afternoon when we headed to the beach one last time before moving west.

Java had a great time playing fetch. She even included Nathan into her romp in the sand. It was the first time Nathan played in the sand. He seemed to enjoy it as there was always a smile on his face.
We'll definately miss the beach.

This last week was a little busy visiting with some friends before we go west.

Mom and I had lunch with my Godmother Daniele, just before they headed south for Jacksonville (for 3 years). We will really miss Shawn and Daniele, good luck!

We also got to visit with Jen and Craig (mom and dad's friends) and their two kids, Rebecca and Cameron, my friends. Here I am with Cameron, ready to take a bite out of his head. Then there is Rebecca and I just before she tackles me to the ground. Finally, here I am playing nice with Cameron. We had lots of fun and I will surely miss them.

A few more firsts in the life of Nathan...
...my 1st invite to a birthday party. Had lots of fun and a taste of the cake icing (it was on the bottom of one of the cake toys I was chewing on). They birthday girl, Peyton turned 3. There were lots of kids and adults. I enjoyed it all.
...my 1st mother's day. I got to spend it with Mom, Nanny, and Dad. We went for a lovely brunch. I had some ham, potatoes, and even tried some blueberries. My lips ended up a little purple.

...the first time I pulled myself up. I want to do nothing but stand now. Who cares about crawling. This standing thing is great. I don't like to sit still, just pulling myself up into a standing position. Wait till I learn how to crawl, wait walk!
...the 1st time playing with the laundry basket. Lots of fun dropping my toys out of it and watching mom pick them up every time!

Trip to Alaska

This is similar to the view from our future back yard. Everywhere you go, there are mountains! We had a good trip to the far north. Long days to get there and back, but we're home now (for another month). Nathan did well on the flights. Take offs were not during nap times, so he wasn't cranky for the ascent. Right now, he's still trying to adjust to the time change. Here are a few pictures of our home to be. Check out more in the "OUR PHOTOS" section.

Play Group

Since the weather is starting to be nice, mom thought it would be in my best interest if I hung out with some kids my age. So...

...we went to a play group with some of mom's aerobics friends and my friends: Brady, Evan, & Sydney. We had a blast and I got to mingle. I've been going to the babysitter last week and this week to see how well I am away from mom and dad. She's very nice and there are some more kids to play with. I'm becoming a social butterfly.

Dad also got me some more toys for the summer. Mom and I tried out the soccer ball. It was great fun. I think I'm getting used to it, just a little more control, and World Cup here I come!

Seeing how the sun is out and the weather is getting warm, I decided to sport my new ball cap. Dad says I look all grown up.

Trip to Boston

The 3 of us hopped on a plane for an amazing weekend in Boston to visit the American portion of the Considine Clan; Chris, Debbie and Ali. Craig unfortunately is in England either completing his masters or saving Tibet, we're not really sure. We had a great time and even got to help celebrate Ali's 26th and Chris's XX birthday(your welcome Chris). Nathan almost didn't make it home because Debbie wanted to keep him for herself. He made out pretty good for his first flights, only a little screaming (don't take off at nap times).

Easter 08

It was a quiet 1st Easter, spent with Nanny, Mom, & Dad. After Easter dinner we got to visit with some other family and friends.I finally opened my mouth long enough for a picture to be taken. They're not fully up yet, but they certainly can chomp down on things (fingers) good enough. They get the job done!

Big Steps

It has been a big week in the short life of Nathan. I have managed to figure out how to roll over and realize it. It's come at a price though, getting stuck in the corner of my crib on my belly with my head jammed into the corner and my feet sticking out through the spindles. Here is a short video of me rolling from my stomach to my back.

I also have cut my first 2 teeth on the bottom. It's been a rough go, but they're through. Not up all the way, but soon. Mom keeps trying to get a picture, but I'm always on the go so it's kinda tough. It has also been a busy week of showing the house. There has been a lot of interest, so we've had to vacate often. We took Nanny out for St. Patty's Day on Monday since we had to be out of the house anyways. It's been great to spend lots of time with her before we leave.

Alaska Bound...

It has been a hectic two weeks with house renos and living in the basement for 3 days, but that's all behind us now. I'm now getting back into a normal routine, now that I don't have to sleep downstairs while the hardwood was installed. I didn't mind the loud noises, with exception to the air compressor lines bleeding. The hissing sound made me cry. No tears in the following video. Check me out, helping once again with the laundry by drooling all over daddy's socks!

Here I am playing with my feet. I am now responding to my name on a regular basis. I turn my head when you call my name.

Just a few photos and videos of the last couple of weeks.

Here I am playing in the inteletrainer. My feet just barely reach the floor, so I have trouble turning around and moving back and forth. Not to worry, I can still make a lot of noise. Just another day in the tub.

I certainly love to splash around, just like at the pool. I am now eating carrots. Mom cooked some up and blended them down so that I could eat them. Still no teeth, so no chewing yet.
I love sitting up all by myself these days. I can't do it for long, but I try hard.

Cereal Time!

I am a hungry little boy! I get to sit in my high chair and eat rice cereal now. I tried some a couple of days ago, but didn't quite get the hang of it then. Today it only took a couple of spoon fulls and cereal all over my face before I knew what to do. Now to look forward to solids!

Here I am eating from the bottle. I like to play with my hair or grab at anything I can get my hands on while I eat. Since the last post, I got to go swimming again with mommy and daddy. I think I like this swimming thing. Not rolling over yet, but I'm getting close. I like to roll onto my side, but that's as far as I go. I do like to sit up and am getting quite good at it. I also like to stand with help from mom and dad. Now I get to stay home with dad for 3 months as mom got a job working in a physiotherapy clinic. Yah mom!

Swimmimg at the Pool

How exciting! I went to the pool with mom and my friends to try this swimming thing. We were there for about an hour and I didn't cry once. We stayed in the warm pool, being a beginner and all. Perhaps we'll move to the big pool in a year or so. We had lots of fun. I floated on my back with no support (mom's hands were close by though), I swam on my tummy, kicking my feet and splashing with my arms. And mom even dunked me under the water, not once but twice. It was quite startling, but I shook it off like a man. Tonite is the first time I get to spend the evening with dad and his friends as mom is going out with the girls. I'll let you know how that goes.

So long 2007, hello 2008. This is me New Year's Eve before I went to bed. We went for some Chinese food with friends and then had some drinks at Tony and Jane's house. As well as a soak in their hot tub. I didn't go for a soak, but mom and dad did.

I've now started to grab at my feet. It sure helps mom and dad change my diaper! I love to suck on my toes if there's nothing on them. I also went to the doctor last week for my 4 month check up and shots. I barely even cried! I am not 13 pounds 12.5 ounces which puts me in the 40th percentile. I am 25 3/4 inches long which is the 60th percentile. So I'm long and skinny, but very healthy.

My 1st Christmas

Silly Mom and Dad... these are Java's antlers! My first Christmas was a success. I made out like a bandit. Thank you to everyone who sent me some clothes, books, toys and more. To those Oiler fans out there, well, we'll wait and see about wearing that toque. Mom, dad, Java, and I spent the morning at home and then headed for Nanny's that afternoon for dinner and desert.

Mike, Susan, Erin, Braden, Allison, Katie and Gabriel also came to Nanny's for some dessert. Here's me sitting in Katie's lap.

The Week Before Christmas...

It has been a very busy week for us all. We attended a party at Shawn and Daniele's place on Thursday. We had a great time. On Saturday, some friends (Tom, Tasha, Aidan, & Peyton) came over to enjoy a dinner on the Raclette. It was yummy. Here I am sitting with Peyton. Then I got to play on a gift from Aunty Susan and Uncle Mike. I'm still a little small to hold myself, but I like to bounce anyways! Java also got an early Christmas gift, but I don't think she liked hers as much.

For being 3 and a half months, I am talking a lot more now and I love to kick my legs and swing my arms. I've also noticed I can grab at things. I've started to play with some of my toys. I am now working on rolling over. Maybe before the New Year rolls around!

Merry Christmas!

Thank you to Aunty Donna for taking some Christmas pictures. Nathan was more than accomodating for a good 15-20 minutes while Donna took some photos. No screaming or fussing, just a little spit up now and again. He'll probably resent all of these photos I'm making him dress up for. Now, Nathan is almost 13 pounds and 24.5 inches long. He's still in around the 50th percentile, so everything is going well. He gets his next set of shots the beginning of January. Being 3 months old, Nathan is getting to be a little more mobile and inquisitive. Waking up in the morning, he has managed to turn himself in circles in his crib, as his head is where his feet once were. He's also come to rolling onto his side, so in no time he'll probably be rolling onto his stomach. Unfortunately, we can not teach him how to roll over like Java (giving her cheese as a reward)! Nathan is also taling a lot more and smiling too. Please look at the photo gallery for more up to date photos.

Last week my aunties, May and Donna came for a visit. Aunty May left on Thursday, but Aunty Donna is still here. I've been having a good time with them because I enjoy hanging out. They have been a big help around the house, changing diapers, cleaning, etc. In this picture, Aunty May and I are at the Hamachi Sushi House at a girls night out. That's right, I was the only fella there! Here I am with Aunty Donna just hanging out in the living room. She leaves in a couple of days. My First Movie

I went to my 1st movie today with Mom and her new friend Kari and my friend Brady. Brady is 2 weeks younger than me. I may not look happy in the photo of me sitting in the theatre seat, but I was hungry and mom was making me pose. After I finished eating, I sat like a good little boy and watched the 1st part of "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium". I really enjoy looking at all the lights and movement. About half way through, I fell asleep and woke up to see the credits. And as you can see, I'm also sporting my new Christmas sweater. Hope you all like it.

Taste of Japan

This week I got to go to the Mess with Mom and Dad and all their friends for the taste of Japan. According to Mom and Dad the food was great and the company even greater. I got to hang out with my soon to be Godmother, Daniele. After dinner, the karaoke stage opened. There was some good talent, and perhaps some... well, let's just say Canadian Idol is not their thing! One performance I missed was a rendition of Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison" by the one and only "DADDY". I heard he did a good job though. I also realized that I like Johnny Cash, as I laughed through any of his songs. After the mess, the party moved to Shawn and Daniele's where I was up way past my bedtime, but had a great visit.

9 and a half weeks

Isn't my smile cute? Mom's having a hard time catching me with the camera. I'm almost 10 weeks old and looking forward to Aunty Donna and Aunty May visiting on November 24th. I've been fairly busy visiting with friends the last couple of weeks. I played with my friend Reese last week as well as my friend Peyton, who lives up the road. She likes to lift my feet to see me smile. I am going to see Dr. Sarah today to get my 2 month shots... I'm really getting them this time. On my last visit to Dr. Sarah, I weighed 10 lbs and 14 ozs. So I'm probably over 11 lbs now. I'm also 23.5 inches long, so almost 2 feet. She says I'm right on the button for my age. After today, I think my next visit will be in January. Mom and I start an aerobics class next week. Maybe I will meet some more friends there. It sounds like fun. I also attended my first Remeberance Day Ceremony. I went to church with Nanny, Mom, & Dad for the service. Then we went to the local Legion for the ceremony. In my opinion, I was a pretty good boy. I went to my Mom's old school as she was teaching some of the students on Friday. All the girls in class had a turn holding me so Mom could do her thing. Again, I think I was a good boy. I'm on a roll, so I think I will stop now.

Nathan's Friend Reese

It's been a few weeks, and now I'm 9 weeks old. I went to visit my friend Reese last week at Halloween. Isn't she a cutie? Reese and her family just moved here from Victoria, so now I will have somebody to play with, even though she's 4 months older than me. I look forward to playing with my friends as I grow bigger!

Which one is not like the other? My first Halloween and mom is making me dress up in a silly pumpkin costume. I may not be going trick-or-treating, but we're in the spirit none-the-less. Next year I may be big enough to hit the houses. Mom and Dad also took me to a haunted corn maze. We went with some good friends, Shawn, Daniele, Jackie, Louis, Bart, Dee, Jane, & Tony. I slept through the entire thing, but kicked Dad when ever he jumped. It was fun, but it may be too much for me next year... We'll see. Just Saying Hello

I want to show everyone just how big I am. I weigh in at 10 lbs 14 ozs as of my 7 week birthday. The nurse says I am 3 lbs heavier than I need to be, but there's nothing wrong with that. According to Daddy's measuring skills, I am close to 24 inches long... I'm a growing boy! On November 6th I have to go visit the doctor for my 2 month checkup, which includes some shots. I'll let you know in 2 weeks how it goes since it's the 1st set in a long line of shots for me. Java and I get to hang out every day, and boy does she like to give me kisses. Mommy tried me in my Bumbo chair, but I still need to work on holding myself upright. It'll come sooner or later (hopefully sooner)! And here I am getting some tummy time. Soon I'll be able to roll over, so Mommy & Daddy watch out!

I'm 6 Weeks Old

It's been 6 weeks since I've entered this world and loving every minute of it (with exception to the growth spurts)! I have been fussy and cranky this last week as I am a growing boy, feeding all the time and keeping mommy awake at night. I had my 1st Thanksgiving at my Great Nanny's place a couple of weeks ago with lots of family around. I also took my first road trip with mommy and daddy to Windsor, NS to watch the 9th Annual Pumpkin Regatta. We also went to Dill's Pumpkin Farm, which is the birth place of hockey. It started off as a nice day, but the rain could not hold off and everyone got wet. Until next time!

Grandma & Grandad McRae

I apologize for the Delay since our last post but I guess that's parent hood. Nathan was lucky enough to get a visit from his grandparents on the McRae side after my parents left 2 weeks ago. They were here for about 9 days and Yvette's mom was a huge help around the house since I was back at work; Thank you Doris. They arrived with suitcases full of gifts from all of Yvette's relatives who we can't thank enough. As those of you with kids know we were unfortunately horrible hosts as we were pretty tired . Nathan's last checkup was great, unlike daddy he's average weight and above average height, yay.

Yesterday Yvette, Nathan and I along with our friends Jen, Craig and their daughter Rebecca went for a long hike on the Pennant Point Trail at Crystal Cresent Beach. Unfortunately there are no pics as I didn't check the camera batteries before we left. It's a great trail and, as we found out there is a nudist section complete with a couple of naked old guys if any of you are into that sorta thing. Grandma & Grandpa Considine

My parents returned to Ontario this morning after a great visit with their first Grandchild. Dad unfortunately had to work in Greenwood until Thursday but Mom was a big help throughout the week. Nathan weighed in at 7lbs 15oz on Thursday and is taking a page from Jack Kwasny's book eating all the time, tiring Yvette out. He is sleeping pretty good and is fairly content unless he is hungry. Tomorrow, Yvette's parents arrive to spend some quality time with their first Grandchild.

Welcome Home

Nathan finally got a clean bill of health on Thursday and was discharged from the IWK after his final dose of antibiotics. He wasn't sure about his surroundings and spent most of the night restless and crying. Yvette is doing great and is keeping up with Nathan's hectic feeding schedule which last night was every 1/2 hr. Java has been excited & curious about Nathan except when he cries, she has been a little sucky though and jumped into bed with Yvette while she was sleeping. Nathan is happily awaiting the arrival of Grandma & Grandpa Considine tonight then Grandad & Grandma McRae next weekend.

Hello Nathan

Nathan, William Considine was born 06 Sept 2007 at 2106. He was 7lbs 7oz and was 21.5 in long and his head was 13.4 in around. As you can see from the photos he had a full head of Brown hair just like daddy and big brown eyes. Yvette was in Labour for about 15hrs and took only 14 min to push Nathan out, all without any drugs. Unfortunately Nathan had a bit of an infection and was jaundice so he was taken down to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) where he was under UV light until yesterday but is still on antibiotics. Fortunately all the tests for major infections came back negative but he's probably going to remain in the NICU on antibiotics until Thursday. Yvette is doing well and Nathan is a fighter just like her. Everyone at the IWK has been fantastic, we couldn't have asked to be in a better place. We'd like to thank everyone for the well wishes and phone calls, hopefully you'll all get to meet the little tough guy soon.

Baby's Room

Almost finished! We just installed the curtain and valance last night, now just to add some pictures to the walls and perhaps a few more small pieces of furniture. At least we have the bare necessities we need for this delivery. The doc said my belly is all baby. Hopefully that means it will not be too big or too painful to push out! I think Java knows something is up, she's been a little more clingly for the last couple of weeks and doesn't like to leave your side... unless her boyfriend Katcher is visiting. He provides a good distraction. Only 2 more days of work, of which I am looking forward to ending as the carpal tunnel is not subsiding and is making work a little bit harder as the days go by. Hopefully it will disappear with the end of this pregnancy. Only 2 weeks and 2 days until the due date! The countdown begins.

Public Affairs, here I come

I attened the Thunder over Niagara Airhsow at Niagara Falls NY 11-12 August with a Sea King (yes we flew it there) and had a great time. The Airshow was hosted by the 914 Airlift Wing who have a bar in their sqn and know how to throw a party. On the way down we got to fly over the falls and got some great shots .

Apparently we were a hit and made the canadian airforce home page you should all check out the link as this will be the first and last time I will ever be used in a Public affairs capacity.

The Baby Shower

My friend Daniele held a baby shower for my on August 12th at her place. I knew about the shower, so it wasn't a big surprise. I would like to thank everyone who came, it certainly was nice to see you all. I would also like to thank everyone for their generosity, you are all very kind. A few games were played and a lot of food was consumed. Needless to say I had a great time even though I was forced to drink out of a bottle and eat a dirty diaper (melted peanut butter cup). The picture on the left shows me holding up a diaper cake from my friend Jen. Amazing what a little ribbon and ingenuity can do. Thank you again to all who attended. A very big thanks to Daniele for hosting the party.

34 Weeks & Counting

Well, it has been a long 7-8 months, but we're still hanging in there. This is the end of week 34, only 6 more to go! Things are coming along and we're slowly collecting what we need for the baby's arrival. The baby's room is complete with the exception of the closet, but that will soon be finished and we'll post a picture at that time.

I'm feeling as good as could be, with the exception of developing a little carpal tunnel in my right hand. Hopefully it will subside after the birth.

Alex and I attended our first labour and delivery class on Wed. the 8th, with the final class to be held on the 15th. A lot of planning and expectations. As the final hour draws near, there is more excitement and anticipation.

We've been hard at work for the last couple of weeks attempting to renovate the baby's room. Most of the painting is finally complete, with exception of doors and trim. Alex will soon install the new floor and trim. From there it's pretty much just putting in the furnishings and accessories.

Yvette's Graduation

It's been a long 18 months, but I am now finally finished with Massage Therapy School, entering into a great career. Alex and I attended my graduation on Thursday, July 19th at the historic Pier 21 in Halifax, with a reception to follow at the Nova Scotia Casino. It was a long day, as I did a lot of the planning for the reception, with the help of some good friends and classmates, Tina, Dave, Maria, Amanda, & Hillary. Thank-you. Now it's time for Alex and I to take another journey together.

We're looking after Katcher, our friends' dog. He appears to be Java's new boyfriend but he's 5 years younger and giving her a run for her money.

Yvette is finally done school

We're back from a restful vacation in Trenton, Ontario at my parents; thanks mom and dad for hosting and feeding us. Pounding the pavement all the way from Ontario, Yvette got a job at a physiotherapy clinic only 10 minutes from where we live starting next week and going until she can't work any more due to the pregnancy. She also got her grades back from school and she made the honor role... at least our baby has one smart parent.

Now that we're back there's work to be done, we have to finish the baby room and the dreaded walkway that is coming along slowly. We'll hopefully get some new photos on here soon but keep coming back and feel free to leave us a comment.

Landscaping again

I've almost finished the landscaping project including a retaining wall and redoing the walkway. The retaining wall is complete and all the material I excavated from the walkway was used to fill in behind, a load of topsoil is the last step. Thanks to work and recent rain I've only got the base layer for the walkway in. I hope to finish the base layers and lay the patio stones by next week...pray for sun.

Landscaping is painful

I have been planning to do some landscaping ever since we moved into our house and now three years later I finally got my butt in gear. The picture on the left was the rock garden beside our walkway at the front of the house, when we moved in. The picture on the right I took this evening after day two of building my rock wall, still not done yet. Luckily Yvette is a massage therapist or I would probably be in traction right now. A couple more days at the rock wall then I get to start the walkway...yeah me.

The end of the 22nd week and Yvette is finally showing as you can see. We're both getting more excited as the days go by and I even tried to listen to the baby's heart beat with a stethoscope but no luck. One of the girls in Yvette's massage therapy program conducted a baby gender prediction test involving a needle and string. Apparently we're having a boy, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Today was our second ultrasound, what an awesome experience. For those ultrasound virgins, it's about an hour long and involves watching a 10"x10", difficult to interpret, black & white display. The technician points out the head, spine, limbs, beating heart and much more, plus ours mentioned about a million times that our baby is quite active (I guess it's better than having a lazy baby).

In Halifax, the hospitals will not reveal the baby's sex (not that we wanted to know) nor will they give you a picture to take home, but you can pay about $100 for it at a private clinic. After recieving a pre-ultrasound letter politely informing us of these facts, I figured I knew better. We brought along our Sony digital camera and Yvette turned off the sound and flash, of course. I turned it on and left it in my pocket until an opportunity presented itself. Like an 80's era spy I snapped dozens of photos, extremely proud of my attempt to beat the system until I reviewed my handy work. As you can see no magazine will be purchasing my blurry, blob photos, which I will inform you all is not what our child looks like.

After a very long afternoon it was amazing that I could actually see our baby's heart beating and see it move on the screen. My pregnancy highlight so far.

Yvette called me from work this evening with some cool news, she felt the baby move for the first time today. Apparently it happened in response to a high pitched annoying voice in her class... No I don't attend any of her classes.

Yvette & I have started this site after our internet provider decided to stop Front page publishing; Oh well.

We hope to keep it updated at least weekly to keep our friends and family up to date about the various mundane things in our life.
